11 Fun Weekend Events Happening in Northern Virginia and DC

Soak up the summer sun with these weekend activities.

Ready for a weekend full of fun? This weekend, June kicks off with events all throughout Northern Virginia. From summer concerts to DC’s WorldPride festivities, here are some of the best events happening this weekend.  

Nationals Postgame Summer Concert featuring Natasha Bedingfield 

June 6 

What’s a better way to kick off the weekend than with an evening summertime baseball game and a concert afterwards? The Washington Nationals are playing against the Texas Rangers at 4 p.m. Afterwards, Grammy-nominated singer Natasha Bedingfield will perform as part of the Nationals Postgame Summer Concert series. The concert is free with a ticket to the game. Nationals Park: 1500 S. Capitol St. SE, Washington, DC, starting at $26  

Summer On the Green Concert Series 

June 6 

Head to Vienna to see the kickoff of this concert series. This week, 2nd Sole, a rock and blues band, will perform covers from a variety of famous artists including Stevie Wonder, Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, and Pink Floyd. The Vienna Town Green: 144 Maple Ave. E., Vienna, free 

Paul Simon: A Quiet Celebration 

June 6–7 

Grammy award–winning American singer and songwriter Paul Simon is performing this weekend at Wolf Trap on his Quiet Celebration tour. This is the first tour he’s been on since his retirement seven years ago. Wolf Trap: 1551 Trap Rd., Vienna, starting at $77

Manassas Railway Festival  

June 7 

Celebrate Manassas’ rich railroad history at this family-friendly festival featuring train memorabilia, model train displays, and specialty vendors. You can even experience rail travel on a scenic train ride from Manassas to Clifton and back on the Virginia Railway Express. Manassas Railroad Depot: 9431 West St., Manassas, $8 with train ticket, free without   

Polo in the Park  

June 7 

Enjoy a family-friendly evening of polo at Morven Park. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets to watch a suspenseful game of the English sport. The event will include drinks and food trucks. Morven Park: 17339 Southern Planter Ln., Leesburg, starting at $40 

Great Rappahannock Whitewater Canoe Race  

June 7 

There’s a race for everyone in the family at this annual event. Compete in up to four races in categories including canoes and kayaks, ranging from expert to beginner levels. There will be two 5-mile downriver races and a 1-mile sprint race. Old Mill Park: 2201 Caroline St., Fredericksburg, $25–$55 

Petpalooza 

June 7 

Calling all animal lovers to join the Petpalooza this weekend for an event of pet-friendly fun. The event includes local dog businesses, pet adoption nonprofits, street entertainers, face painters, a children’s craft tent, a DJ, and a caricaturist. Plus, see a reptile exhibit, a bug exhibit, and a zoo exhibit. Reston Town Center: 11900 Market St., Reston, free 

Taste of Springfield  

June 7 

This food festival, now in its eighth year, features local restaurants, exhibitors, and live entertainment including DJs, bands, and youth entertainers. Plus, a chance to win prizes. Springfield Town Center: 6500 Springfield Mall, Springfield, free

Birmingham Royal Ballet: Black Sabbath – The Ballet  

June 7–8 

Heavy metal and ballet collide in this headbanging performance. Dancers will perform to Black Sabbath tracks like “Paranoid” and “Iron Man,” as well as new works that take inspiration from the band. The Kennedy Center: 2700 F St. NW, Washington, DC, $59–$169 

WorldPride Parade, Street Festival, and Concert 

June 7-8 

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Pride in Washington, DC, and what better way to celebrate it than with WorldPride’s lineup of events? Head to the parade and street festival on Saturday, then continue the fun with more of the festival and a concert on Sunday. Headliners include Jennifer Lopez, Troye Sivan, Renee Rapp, and Zedd. DMV Summer Kickoff Festival 

June 8 

End the weekend on a high note by going to the DMV Summer Kickoff Music Festival. This charity event includes live music, food, drinks, artisan crafts, prizes, and a 360-photo booth. Lerner Town Square, Tysons II Galleria: 8025 Galleria Dr., Tysons, starting at $12.51
