Internships at Northern Virginia Magazine
Interning at the Magazine
Northern Virginia Magazine is a monthly regional magazine that reaches thousands of residents of the DMV and Northern Virginia — from DC to Alexandria and Arlington to Loudoun County and beyond — through our print and digital platforms. As a lifestyle publication, we regularly cover all things NoVA across a wide span of categories, including Food, Fashion, and Health.
As such, the editorial intern will gain extensive experience in the fundamental skills of the publishing industry. Aiding in the preparation of articles for publication, from initial research to copyediting, will be a regular part of your responsibilities. Updating and editing digital articles, brainstorming headlines, and fact checking across platforms will also be an important part of the job. Opportunities such as working with analytics and composing digital and social copy will be available depending on the intern’s interests and capabilities.
Application Requirements
Journalism, English, and Communications majors and minors are encouraged to apply, but we would love to hear from anyone with an interest and aptitude in writing and media. Experience with AP Style and WordPress is a plus, but not required.
This is a paid, in-person internship. We request a minimum of 16 hours per week. We will work with all interns to ensure they receive college credit, but credit is not required. Candidates will also need reliable transportation to our office in Chantilly.
Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and two to three writing samples.
Please submit applications by December 16 for spring internships and March 15 for summer internships.
