Library of Congress Announces its Annual Summer Movies on the Lawn Series

Catch classic flicks like “The Princess Bride” and “Jurassic Park” under the stars.

By Michele Kettner May 21, 2025 at 10:45 am

The summer season is meant for outdoor movies, and the Library of Congress is bringing back its annual Summer Movies on the Lawn series starting in July.

The outdoor screenings are hosted on the Southeast Lawn on Thursday nights from July 10 to August 7. Each event will begin at 7 p.m. – with live music performances before some of the films – followed by the screening at sundown.

The five selected films are all from the Library’s National Film Registry.

July 10, The Princess Bride
July 17, The Goonies
July 24, Spy Kids
July 31, The Muppet Movie
August 7, Jurassic Park

Tickets are not required, but guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot. Attendees are allowed to bring along blankets, chairs, and food and drinks. Alcohol will not be allowed on the premises.

Restrooms will be available in the James Madison Building, but guests will need to pass through U.S. Capitol Police security screening.
