Hylton Performing Arts Center announces 2020-21 season

Here’s what fans need to know about the outdoor performances and other news from the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

By Holly Gambrell August 28, 2020 at 2:57 pm

The return of the arts is here! After months of staying indoors and streaming performances, patrons of the theater can soon return to see performances at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, which recently announced its 10th anniversary season, being held from 2020 to 2021.

The lineup includes outdoor performances by Charm City Junction, Ranky Tanky and The Queen’s Cartoonists, plus a return to indoor performances inside Merchant Hall starting in 2021. And, for those still hesitant to attend a show in-person, the arts center’s fall lineup also includes Hylton at Home digital programming, so everyone can enjoy the shows.

Hylton at Home features livestreamed and pre-recorded digital concerts, behind-the-scenes conversations with artists, story times with the Prince William Public Library System and more.

For the in-person performances, this fall will see the arrival of new outdoor venue, Hylton on the Hill, which will have seating on a natural rise just behind the theater on George Mason University’s Science and Technology campus, providing patrons with safe, socially distant seating.

And, if state health officials and GMU deem it safe to do so, the Hylton Center’s 10th anniversary season will resume indoor performances in January 2021, yet will still follow strict protocols amid COVID-19’s lingering risk.

“Our motto is ‘the arts create community,’ and we have never felt the power of those four words more keenly than in this moment of tentative re-emergence from our long, shared isolation,” said Rick Davis, Hylton Center executive director and dean of Mason’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, in a recent press release.

The Hylton Center also recently announced its new speaker series, The Artist-Activist: Centering Black Voices, designed to provide an opportunity for the community to engage in dialogue around creative processes, activism and racism. The series will feature nationally renowned artists speaking about the intersection of creative industries and social justice movements. All sessions will be free and open to the public and will be streamed online as part of Hylton at Home.

Tickets for the outdoor Hylton on the Hill performances are now on sale to the public, starting today, Aug. 28. Ticketed Hylton at Home events and tickets for the spring 2021 performances will go on sale at a later date. For more information, visit hyltoncenter.org. // 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas
