Shop Made in DC celebrates Women’s History Month with SHE DC

The monthlong event showcases work from 100 DMV-based female artists, spread across the retail initiative’s central locations.

Finding handmade goods in the DMV—whether they be hand-poured, 100% natural soy candles or vintage, block-printed pillows—is not difficult, especially since Shop Made in DC provides local makers the space to share their products with the world.

With three locations in the District, the retail initiative is able to house over 200 makers and nearly 5,000 products. Among those 200 vendors, 86% are women, and in honor of Women’s History Month, the initiative is celebrating with SHE DC, a monthlong, women’s-only installation.

As of March 1, the artists have set up shop across four locations—Dupont Circle, Georgetown, The Wharf and Canopy Hilton Embassy Row—presenting items like acrylic-painted wall art, letterpress prints, hand-stitched clothing, fused-glass dishes, photography and so much more.

While the opening receptions for The Wharf and Dupont Circle locations have already passed, there will be a Georgetown grand re-opening party and opening reception taking place on Thursday, March 12. At the Georgetown space, featured artists include painter and ceramicist Kristin Gaudio Endlsey, who will display work of cherry blossoms in honor of the season; illustrator Joy Nevada; embroidery specialist Rachel Wallach and many more.

To close out the city-wide affair, SHE DC will host a closing party for all makers and artist enthusiasts alike on Tuesday, March 24.
