A popular Nokesville Christmas tree farm is closing up shop. This will be the last season to choose a tree at Evergreen Acres.
The Nokesville farm’s owner Jim Gehlsen announced the news on Facebook. “This will be our final and 36th continuous year of selling Christmas trees. We’ve enjoyed seeing everyone in the past and hope to see you for our final year.”
Cedar Run Brewery, which opened on the property in 2019, closed in May.
Gehlsen told Northern Virginia Magazine that several factors contributed to the family’s decision to close. “We’ve had several health issues in the past couple years, which makes it difficult to get the work done,” he said. And, “we want to be more present in the lives of our grandchildren.”
He also pointed to the construction of additional high-voltage power lines to support the area’s growing data center population. “We dodged the bullet last year as our farm was an option to run a high-tension power line right up the middle to power data centers in Loudoun. There are still 150 approved data centers that have not begun construction. We don’t want to press the luck.”
Gehlsen posted a current photo of the tree farm on Facebook and noted that, “If you’ve thought of cutting a live tree and haven’t done it yet, this is the year to come on out. … There are thousands of trees to choose from.”
