9 trends to add to your closet this spring

Inspired by runways of London, New York City and Milan, these trends are set to be all the rage in the warmer months. Here’s some inspiration for those bold enough to bring the runway looks to the streets.

By Jess Feldman March 9, 2020 at 4:56 pm

blue, bohemian floral dress Pascale Embroidered Floral-Print Cotton-Voile Mini Dress, $395; SEA
Be inspired by the past with this beautiful dress made by SEA, which reflects the spring trend of wearing retro, bold, bright patterns mirroring wallpapers of the '60s and '70s. While some of this season’s patterns are extremely unique and sure to garner attention, this bohemian dress makes it easy to try your hand at the adventurous style.
white crochet dress Stella Crochet Maxi Dress, $350; Suboo
Less is more this season and crochet-centered looks are here to prove it. The soon-to-be-everywhere trend is inspired by the classic crocheting technique of the past, yet with a modern, feminine twist. With this lightweight maxi dress from Suboo, you’ll be ready for weekend barbecues, date night and more.
burgundy oversized suit Straight Cut Shorts, $69.90; Zara
We all know business attire looks a lot different than it used to. Yet now it is changing once again with the addition of work-acceptable Bermuda shorts, debuted by designers like Bottega Ceneta and Givenchy. Even global retailer Zara is jumping on the bandwagon, introducing these straight-cut shorts (paired with an oversized blazer) for the spring season.
woman in black leather shorts Understated Leather Paperbag Shorts, $185; Free People
Incorporate two trending styles with one outfit, thanks to these leather shorts from boho-brand Free People. Spring leather and hot pants (otherwise known as short-shorts) turned lots of heads at runways earlier this year. While both trends are bold, it’s easy to bring the look to the streets of NoVA with this classic pair of black leather shorts.
neon green skirt Fluid Satin Midi Skirt, $32.98; Leith
Neon is making a bright and bold comeback from the '80s this spring. On the runway this past fall, fashion icons like Valentino introduced shocking shades of pink, orange, blue, green and yellow. If you want to try out the look for yourself, don this midi skirt with a simple white or black T-shirt and sandals.
brown trench coat The Modern Trench Coat, $148; Everlane
While spring is typically known as a time where we shed layers, this year’s runways appear to be challenging the status quo with the resurgence of seasonal trench coats. This piece from Everlane will ensure you remain on-trend and comfortable too, thanks to its light, water-resistant design.
colorful, tiered skirt Anarosa Tiered Maxi Skirt, $158; Bhanuni by Jyoti
While floral patterns are always a big hit for warmer days in the sun, this skirt incorporates a newer trend of tiered fabric too. Tiered dresses, skirts and even blouses made their way to fashion shows across the globe, giving you an excuse to rock a bold look no matter the occasion.
navy polka-dot jumpsuit Polka-Dot Tie-Waist Jumpsuit, $129; Tommy Hilfiger
Polka-dot dresses of all colors are expected to be a big hit this season. With this navy jumpsuit by Tommy Hillfiger, you’ll put a fun twist on the elegant pattern.
woman in blue shirt with brown vest on Sophisticated Ways Tweet Vest, $75; ModCLoth
Vintage vests have returned! Spring lines of international brands like Celine, Rag & Bone and Louis Vuitton feature dapper vests this year. Now you can rock the classic look too, with this sophisticated (and decently priced) vest by ModCloth, made of wool.
