The retail landscape is constantly changing in Northern Virginia. Several area retailers are closing up shop, while other brands are planning new spaces.
Making Moves
Dick’s House of Sport, a concept from Dick’s Sporting Goods that includes experiences like rock climbing, is taking over the former Lord & Taylor space at Tysons Corner Center.
Burlington will take over part of the space previously occupied by Office Depot and Party City in the Chantilly Crossing Shopping Center. Another Burlington is reportedly moving into Burke’s Rolling Valley Shopping Center in the current Staples space.
Fortunoff Backyard Store has opened in the Springfield Commons shopping center.
Barnes & Noble is opening a second Alexandria location. The store will be in the Shoppes at Foxchase Center in the space formerly occupied by Walgreens.
Construction is underway on the new Ikea at the site of the former Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. A specific opening date is TBD.
Anthropologie and Madewell will reportedly be opening in One Loudoun in Ashburn, but opening dates haven’t been announced.
Hollister will join Leesburg Premium Outlets in the former Restoration Hardware space, but no opening date has been reported.
Brighton will open at Fairfax Corner later this year.
At Leesburg Premium Outlets, Timberland will open May 5 and Michael Kors Mens opens May 7.
Closing Time
Yankee Candle closed 20 stores across the U.S. and Canda, including its Gainesville location.
Francesca’s has been liquidating inventory and closing all of its locations, including in Arlington, Fair Oaks, Gainesville, Fredericksburg, Leesburg, and Tysons Corner Center.
JCPenney at Springfield Town Center will close on May 24.
Saks Fifth Avenue at Tysons Galleria will close at the end of May. The brand’s Chevy Chase, Maryland, store is also set to close.
