Gov. Terry McAuliffe calls on Maryland, D.C. to address Metro issues; President Trump states that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital

At a news conference on Tuesday, Gov. Terry McAuliffe asserted that Virginia has done its part to support Metro and that now is the time for Maryland and Washington, D.C., to also take action.

On Wednesday, President Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, triggering responses from individuals on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Palestine officials, who hope to use east Jerusalem as the capital of an eventual independent state, called off the conflict’s talks of peace, and Turkey will be holding a meeting for the leaders of Islamic nations to come together and plan their response.

Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland wrote a press release calling for an investigation into I-66’s toll lanes saying that the information which initially circulated about the tolls does not match reality—mainly that tolls for a round-trip commute were only supposed to reach a maximum price of $17, but at peak this week, round-trip tolls have cost between $40-80.

In an Alexandria federal court on Tuesday, the jury was selected for the trial of Nicholas Young, a Metro police officer who was arrested for buying gift cards for individuals in an Islamic State group—an act of terrorism. Due to new evidence presented by the defense, Judge Leonie Brinkema has decided to delay the trial by one week.
