5 activities to take the family to this weekend

From bounce houses to baking contests, treat your kids to a special weekend at these family fun activities.

With schools out across the region, it’s finally time to enjoy summer vacation. Make some memories this weekend at one of these activities:

Campfire Fridays

Friday, 8:30 p.m.
After a long week, huddle around the campfire for a night of summer fun. While you wait to toast marshmallows on the fire, the family can also take a nature walk, meet different animals, and enjoy other interactive activities to close out the night. Lake Accotink Park: 7500 Accotink Park Rd., Springfield; $12 

Family Fun Entertainment Series: Guava Jelly

Saturday, 10-10:45 a.m.
Start off your Saturday with a family dance party. The tunes of Guava Jelly will transport you to the island for an outdoor sing-along that will be hard to resist. Reston Town Square Park: 11900 Market St., Reston; free 

Fairfax Family Festival

Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
If your little ones are already bored this summer, brighten up their weekend with a trip to the festival. All activities, including bounce houses, balloon animals, and glitter tattoos, are free for all families. 11230 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax; free

Family “Nailed It”!

Sunday, 5 p.m.
If your family is obsessed with Nailed It, this is the class for you. Teams will be given the cake, tools, and relief instruction on decorating before creating their masterpiece. Cake Time: 4300 Chantilly Shopping Center, Ste. 1H, Chantilly; $60 

Cinema & Cider

Sunday, 8:30-10:30 p.m.
Every night is movie night during the summer. Bring the family to Lost Boy Cider for a showing of The Sandlot at its first-ever summer cinema. As the kids snack on their popcorn and sweets, parents can enjoy a refreshing cider. Lost Boy Cider: 317 Hooffs Run Dr., Alexandria; $20 per adult, free for kids
