6 events to enjoy with the family this weekend

Everything from campfires to Mother’s Day workshops should be added to your planner.

This weekend may be all about the moms, but your kids will want to have a little fun too. From Mother’s Day events for the family to a day with the horses, pack up the kids and take them to one of these six events this weekend.

Horse Tails

Friday, 11 a.m.-noon
Take a break from your at-home learning session for some fun in the stables. Head to the farm to help the staff take care of its giant draft horses. From grooming to going for a walk, your little ones will love this up-close experience. // Temple Hall Farm Regional Park: 15855 Limestone School Rd., Leesburg

Fancy Paper for Mom

Friday & Saturday, times vary
If your little ones are still looking for a special gift for Mom, consider this handmade activity. Make your say over to the historic destination for a lesson on how to dye paper to create a heartfelt card or booklet. // Sully Historic Site: 3650 Historic Sully Way, Chantilly; $20

Pooh and Friends at Hidden Oaks

Saturday, 9:30 a.m.
Winnie the Pooh and his friends are leaving the Hundred Acre Woods for a local NoVA park. Bring along your favorite stuffed animal for a hike around the wood to see if woozles and heffalumps are native to the area. After you search, enjoy some honey crackers that Pooh himself would love. // Hidden Oaks Nature Center: 7701 Royce St., Annandale; $7

Parent/Child Flower Workshop for Mother’s Day

Saturday, 11:30 a.m.
Spend Mother’s Day weekend with some quality one-on-one time with your beloved kids. This 90-minute workshop lets your group work together to create your own beautiful bouquet just in time for your special brunch. // Dominion Valley Country Club: 15351 Championship Dr. Haymarket; free

Flashlight Hike

Saturday, 8-9:30 p.m.
Once the sun goes down, take your older kiddos out for an adventure. Hike the forest trails and along the creek of Glencarlyn Park with only a flashlight to lead the way. Just make sure to look out for the animals that go bump in the night. // Long Branch Nature Center at Glencarlyn Park: 625 S. Carlin Springs Rd., Arlington; free

Baby Animal Campfire

Sunday, 7-8 p.m.
End the weekend with some laughs around the fire. Bring the family to the fire ring to join special animal guests for campfire stories and delicious s’mores. // Gulf Branch Nature Center & Park: 3608 N. Military Rd., Arlington; free
