Been hearing about drone light shows but haven’t actually seen one yet? Well, here’s your chance.
A 45-minute drone light show adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is set to light the night sky at the Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, Maryland, on Saturday, August 22.
“This will be the first long-form drone show in Nymeo Field’s history,” says Stephanie White, manager of events for the Frederick Keys. The minor league baseball team is an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The stadium is about one hour’s drive from Northern Virginia.
The show will feature approximately 500 illuminated drones. It begins with a cyclone transporting the audience from Kansas to the Oz. Along the way, viewers will encounter the book’s best-loved characters, including the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion.
“Unlike many drone shows that serve as a brief postgame attraction, this is a complete 45-minute entertainment experience,” says White. “Where most drone shows feature just 10 to 15 minutes of custom animations, this show immerses guests in a full evening of entertainment.”
An alternative to traditional fireworks, drone light shows create images without the loud booms. This makes them a gentler option for young children and guests who prefer a less noise.
Gates open at 7 p.m., followed by pre-show entertainment and activities. Expect music, a DJ dance party, special concessions, roaming costumed characters, and themed photo opportunities.
Admission prices vary from $27 to $75 per person. Children ages 2 and under who will sit on a parent or guardian’s lap are admitted free but will not be assigned a seat. All assigned seats require a ticket purchase. This event has a scheduled rain date of Sunday, August 23.
