Film buffs: If you have exhausted your list of first-run titles to stream and are feeling cooped up this month, there is an antidote–and it’s not another virtual event.
The 4th annual Cabin Fever Film Festival will be held at Purcellville’s Franklin Park Arts Center on Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23. Sponsored by Franklin Park Visual and Performing Arts Center and the Town of Purcellville Arts Council, the event highlights the works of local filmmakers, student productions and vintage home movies with a focus on films made in Purcellville and by its residents.
A slate of 15 films will be shown this year with a 10-minute intermission, including live action shorts, documentaries, stop motion films and music videos. Works include Treasure Hunt, a 6-minute live action film about a treasure hunt gone wrong; the 4-minute music video Rockabilly Funeral, recorded at Annandale’s Sunset Grill; the 5.43-minute live-action play CUT that’s a play on the different meanings of the word; the consequences of strained relationships between humans and their inventions in the 5-minute stop motion film Modern Conveniences?; and an 8-minute stop motion film with three episodes of stuffed bunnies who play games, get into trouble and share a little bit of magic in The Bun Bun Show.
All filmmakers are currently residents of Loudoun County except for Emily Fraser, who grew up in the area and still has family there, though she currently resides on the west coast. Attendees and the general public are encouraged to submit their questions via email or the festival’s Facebook page, as a Q&A with the artists will be recorded during the week of Jan. 25-29 and will be posted on the festival’s website for virtual viewing by the public.
Tickets to the Cabin Fever Film Festival are $5 per person and can be purchased online (the link will be live starting the week of Jan. 17). On Jan. 22, the event runs 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a short presentation to start the festival; on Jan. 23 the event runs from 10 a.m. to noon. All films will be shown each day, so a ticket to either day will ensure you see all the submissions. Seating will be limited to ensure social distancing by family groups and everyone aged 5 and older will be required to wear face coverings.
