This one-day event in Fredericksburg promotes literacy in all genres. Not only is the festival for lovers of literature, but it also provides a platform for local authors to promote their books. Fall for the Book

This four-day festival is full of 150 authors and every book genre possible. Aiming to promote literacy in both children and adults, the Fall for the Book Festival operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The festival will have a cookbook alley with cooking demonstrations and authors such as Juliet “Ju Ju” Harris and Melanie Underwood, a magic section, mystery and more. The main goals of the festival are to make literacy fun, promote diversity and encourage education. Headlining the festival is Colson Whitehead, author of acclaimed novel The Underground Railroad, and Lev Grossman, who penned the Magicians trilogy, which has been turned into a TV series on the Syfy channel. // George Mason University, Fairfax
