Now’s the time to put your love for Taco Bell to the test. The Taco Bell DC 50K will be held for the first time throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.
The race – which is not sponsored by Taco Bell – will take place on Saturday, November 29. At just over 32 miles, the course will include stops at nine different Taco Bells in Alexandria, Arlington, and DC. The goal? Finish the 50K and all nine tacos, burritos, or other menu options in under 11 hours.
Route and Rules to Digest
While it may sound like a fun adventure, the race does have plenty of rules runners need to follow. Some of those include eating at least one Chalupa Supreme or Crunchwrap Supreme by the fourth stop and one Burrito Supreme or Nachos Bell Grande by the eighth stop. And no on-course Pepto, Alka Seltzer, or other indigestion medication is permitted.
The race kicks off at 8 a.m. at the Taco Bell Cantina on 417 King St. in Alexandria. From there, runners will traverse to Taco Bell locations on S. Van Dorn St. in Alexandria; Lee Highway and Wilson Boulevard in Arlington; and 14th Street NW, U Street NW, Seventh Street NW, and Massachusetts Avenue NE before heading back to Alexandria for one final stop.
At the end of the race, those left standing will go home with a commemorative item (and probably a different outlook on the Tex-Mex chain).
DC’s version of the Taco Bell 50K was inspired by a similar race held in Denver. “It sounded like so much fun, we wanted to bring it to DC,” the race organizers said on the event website.
The race, which currently has nearly 350 registered participants, is free to enter. However, runners will need to pay for their own food at each location.
