The 11 Best Things to Do in Northern Virginia and DC this Weekend

Check out these concerts, beer festivals, family-friendly events, stage productions, and more the weekend of September 19 to 21.

Rest up now — the weekend ahead is packed. Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, are brimming with things to do, including concerts, beer festivals, family-friendly events, and stage productions. No matter your age or interest, there’s something waiting to make your weekend unforgettable. 

National Mall of Pickleball  

September 19 to 21

Pickleball is taking over the world — including part of the National Mall.  This pop-up event includes 11 temporary courts, games, and clinics for all levels. Register early, as slots fill fast. National Mall near Smithsonian Metro, Tickets: Free for walk-on; reservations recommended 

Crossroads Music Festival  

September 19 and 20 

BENEFIT hosts two nights of unforgettable live music to raise funds for Loudoun County nonprofits serving children. Platinum-selling Southern rock band Sister Hazel takes the stage on Friday, September 19. On Saturday, September 20, Andy Summers, legendary guitarist of The Police, headlines Songs and Stories from the Crossroads, an evening weaving music, storytelling, and conversation. And on Saturday, free music showcases take place across Leesburg from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Tally Ho Theater: 19 West Market St., Leesburg. $55 to $250

Del Ray Artisans’ HalloWEIRD Art Market 2025 

Saturday, September 20, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

The HalloWEIRD Art Market features a variety of artwork from local artisans celebrating the spooky and playful sides of the autumn season. Expect lots of fun at this outdoor, family-friendly, rain-or-shine event. Mount Vernon Recreation Center fields adjoining Del Ray Artisans gallery, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria, free 

Shipgarten Oktoberfest 

September 20  

Have a barrel of fun at this season’s festivity. Sample more than 50 beers from Germany, Belgium, Austria, and the U.S. at Shipgarten’s Oktoberfest German Kickoff. The festival runs from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m., with a costume contest, themed games (think pretzel toss and keg curling), and live music. 7581 Colshire Rd., McLean 

Reston Multicultural Festival 

Saturday, September 20, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Celebrate Reston’s rich diversity through song, dance, food, and art. Sip and stroll at Reston Town Center for this free event. Bonus: Free garage parking on site. Reston Town Center 

Cirque Du Soleil Luzia  

Through October 18 

Cirque du Soleil brings its dazzling production LUZIA to Tysons, inviting audiences into a dreamlike Mexico filled with acrobatics, artistry, and visual surprises — even rain on stage. 8025 Galleria Drive, Tysons Corner, $60 to 95 

The Addams Family  

September 19 through 21 

Catch the kookiest family around in this fun-filled musical comedy, perfect for theatergoers of all ages. Capital One Hall: 7750 Capital One Tower Rd., Tysons, $25 to $70 

Vienna’s Chillin’ on Church 

September 19, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. 

Enjoy live music, food trucks, local beer and wine, and community vibes at Vienna’s “Chillin’ on Church,” part of the Summer on the Green series. Bring a blanket or chair and relax with friends and family while local bands take the stage. 144 Maple Ave. E, Vienna, free 

Bluemont Fair 

September 20 and 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Spend a day exploring the 200-year-old village of Bluemont, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Enjoy artisan crafts, local wine and beer, live music, and heritage exhibits. Families can attend archaeology demonstrations, savor farm-fresh food, and let kids enjoy free games at the Children’s Fair or visit the petting zoo. Historic Bluemont, Snickersville Turnpike, $10, children 9 and under are free

Cox Farms Fall Festival 

September 20 through early November  

A Northern Virginia favorite, Cox Farms offers hayrides, giant slides, rope swings, farm animals, and fall treats like apple cider donuts and kettle corn. With live music and endless family fun, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the season. 15621 Braddock Rd., Centreville, $15 to $30

Keeping Up With Cupcake at Salamander Resort 

Fridays and Saturdays, 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Meet Salamander Resort’s tiniest celebrity, Cupcake the miniature horse. With her big personality and sweet charm, Cupcake greets guests in the Living Room, making for the perfect family-friendly photo op for kids of all ages. 500 North Pendleton St., Middleburg, Free
