Ever wanted to play pickleball on the National Mall? Now’s your chance to make it a reality.
The National Mall of Pickleball, a multi-day pop-up event that brings pickleball courts right to the Mall, will return for the third year from September 19 to September 21.
This event’s theme is “Moves that Serve,” which aims to celebrate pickleball as “a welcoming game that is inclusive, accessible, and fun for us all,” according to a news release. Throughout the event, there will be programming like pickleball lessons, clinics with pros, walk-on court time, and scheduled matches.
It’s a collaboration between the Trust for the National Mall, Humana, and the Humana Foundation.

This year, the event will have 11 courts at 12th Street NW in Washington, DC, near the Smithsonian Metro Station. (In previous years, it was at the JFK Hockey Fields.)
“As America’s Front Yard and most iconic public space, the National Mall inspires community and connection, and this unique event draws thousands together, fostering health, wellness, and friendship,” said Catherine Townsend, president and CEO of the Trust for the National Mall.
Ultimate Pickleball Duos
The Trust is looking for pickleball duos “that have a passion for pickleball and the sense of community it brings.” Think you fit the bill? You have until August 15 to submit a story about the role pickleball plays in your life for a chance to play on the center court in the Ultimate Duo Tournament.
Eight duos will win an all-expense-paid trip to visit the National Mall of Pickleball. Winners will be announced the first week of September.
