Titanic Exhibition Brings Immersive, Historical Display to National Harbor

Experience the infamous ship’s maiden and final journey through survivor testimonies, recreations, and never-before-seen artifacts.

By Michele Kettner August 21, 2023 at 11:37 am

You’ve probably seen the movie too many times to count, but now is the chance to learn about the story of the Titanic through its survivors and objects that survived the ship’s sinking. Starting in October, Titanic. The Exhibition will be on display at National Harbor.

Previously sold out in London in New York, the exhibit is slated to open on October 21, and currently has timed entries available through December 10.

The exhibition is curated by Claes-Göran Wetterholm, a historian who has spent more than 40 years studying the Titanic.

The display will retell the ship’s sinking through the human experience and will feature around 200 objects, including photographs, handwritten letters, keepsakes, and other personal belongings from passengers and crew members. There will be life-size re-creations of some of Titanic’s interior rooms and original objects that have never been displayed in the DMV before.

Guests are asked to bring a smartphone and headphones to enjoy the free audio guide experience, which will play survivor testimonies, music, and sound effects throughout the approximately one-and-a-half hour program. Audio guides will also be available for rental.
