Annual Old Town Festival of Speed & Style Postponed to 2021

As concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic continue to grow, the second annual festival will not take place on its originally scheduled September date.

Last year in May, classic car lovers of all kinds had the opportunity to revel in nearly 60 race cars and supercars from the 1950s to the 1980s at the inaugural Old Town Festival of Speed & Style in Alexandria. And, while those same enthusiasts were planning to rev up their engines for a second festival this September, the affair has officially been postponed until 2021 as the region continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Our No. 1 focus has always been on the community—generating visibility for the city, foot traffic for businesses, funding for local charities and a fantastic event for residents,” festival founder Rick Myllenbeck said in a recent press release. “Taking everything into account, we feel that this decision also supports that focus—which now includes keeping everyone safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.”

Presented by Burke & Herbert Bank, the single-day, free event brought in vehicles and vintage motorcycles from around the world for up-close viewing enjoyment on King Street in 2019. This year, the festival was also set to feature a fashion demonstration presented by the Old Town Boutique District, in which boutiques showcase styles from the themed cars on display. As of press time, the festival has been postponed until May 2021.
