If you find yourself studying car characteristics in your free time, or eyeing pristine-condition classics as a hobby, it’s time to rev up your excitement at the Old Town Festival of Speed & Style in Alexandria, held on Sunday, May 19.
The inaugural event will take over three blocks of King Street near Alexandria’s waterfront, gathering roughly 60 race cars and supercars from the 1950s to the ’80s. The free event will host live music and local street vendors, while encouraging visitors to visit Old Town restaurants and shops in the surrounding area.
Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Jaguar and Lamborghini are just a few of the supercar brands that enthusiasts of all ages can see from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If fashion is more your speed, the Old Town Boutique District will host an exhibition from noon to 1 p.m., pairing current spring fashion trends with a handful of vintage cars on display.
The event is a co-production of Rick Myllenbeck, owner of Sonoma Cellar in Alexandria, and a group of local vintage and exotic car collectors. Proceeds from the event will support Act for Alexandria, a racial equity initiative-focused nonprofit that hosts educational and ally-development workshops, learning labs and community conversations.
