Shenandoah National Park is blending art and nature this fall with Art in the Park: Scenes from Shenandoah. The two-day event will feature workshops, demonstrations, and musical performances by local artists.
Hosted by the Shenandoah National Park Trust, the event will take place at Big Meadows Wayside on September 25 and 26. Visitors can explore different artistic mediums, including watercolor, charcoal, photography, fiber art, printmaking, and music.
Guests can learn how to draw plants and flowers with graphite pencils, take an introductory workshop on oil painting, and participate in a botanical character illustration class. At a “Splotch Monster Island” workshop, attendees can turn watercolor paint splotches into mythical creatures inspired by nature and animals.
The weekend will also include a performance by Virginia folk duo The Honey Dewdrops at Big Meadows Amphitheater. The duo — Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish — combine their voices with acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins, and clawhammer banjos.
All workshops and demonstrations are free and open to the public.
