Have you ever dived into the ocean or your backyard pool and imagined yourself as a mermaid? Now’s your chance to take that fantasy a step further at MerMagic Con, being held at The Freedom Center Feb. 22-24.

The mermaid convention will include content for every level of mermaid enthusiast, including children and professional mermaid performers.

Specialty speakers will be at the event, including celebrity mermaids, marine scientists, scuba experts, free-diving champions, filmmakers, photographers, authors, artists and business coaches.

The convention will host workshops, swims, photoshoots and activities—all of which are family friendly—and experts will introduce attendees to the world of mermaiding and help increase the skills of hobbyists with the hope of empowering those pursuing mermaiding as a business.

Other activities will include creating your own ocean accessories, shopping with artisanal vendors, learning water safety fundamentals, modeling for aquatic photo shoots and auditions to become a professional mermaid with mid-Atlantic water artist groups.

There will also be an evening gala on Saturday night at Wyndham Garden Manassas, for those 21-years-old and up, with an open bar. Guests are encouraged to dress in their best “formal mermaid” attire.

Friday night will include check-in at Wyndham Garden and an informal poolside mixer to meet other convention attendees from 4-8 p.m. The mermaid convention will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, with the gala held from 9 p.m.-midnight, and Sunday will include a 10 a.m.-1 p.m. open swim, plus audition callbacks.
