For many, the holidays are a happy time of year. For others, the holidays aren’t as easygoing. You can lend a helping hand by donating nonperishable goods to one of the many food drives organized by Northern Virginia’s food banks.

All Giant and Harris Teeter grocery stores will collect canned goods in designated collection bins through Nov. 23 and Nov. 30,  respectively. Online donations to the Capital Area Food Bank can be made here through Nov. 23.

With some help from the Arlington Food Assistance Center, the Capital Area Food Bank, ACTS and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, we’ve also identified some alternative drop-off spots.
