Halloween events across NoVA your family must check out

Celebrate Halloween with events for kids, adults and even pets.

Halloween is right around the corner. While many are looking forward to the tried-and-true trick-or-treating and haunted houses, there is a lot more taking place this Halloween across NoVA. Get out of the house and stop by one of these events for a fun-filled day before heading out to trick-or-treat that night.

Madhaunter’s Madhouse
Oct. 14-15, 21-22 & 28-31, 7 p.m.; $20
Dare to enter this massive indoor and outdoor maze that will have you jumping and keep your heart pounding at every turn. // Workhouse Arts Center: 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton

Howl-o-ween Pet Parade and Falloween Festival
Oct. 22, 10 a.m.; free
Get your pet in the Halloween spirit by dressing them in a tiny costume and then parading them around Market Common Clarendon. After the parade, there will also be plenty of family fun with Halloween-inspired activities, including pumpkin decorating and trick-or-treating. // Market Common Clarendon: 2800 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington

Air & Scare
Oct. 22, 11 a.m.; free
Dress your little ones in their Halloween costumes and take them to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. They will enjoy a day of spooky science experiments, creepy crafts and indoor trick-or-treating. // Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center: 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly

Bark or Treat Canine Cruise
Oct. 28, 5:30 p.m.; $10-$16 for humans, free for dogs
Take your four-legged friend on this cruise along the Potomac, where you’ll find Halloween-inspired treats and music. And don’t forget to dress your dog up in a costume. // Alexandria City Marina: 1 Cameron St., Alexandria

Spirits of the Past – One Final Year
Oct. 28-29, times vary; $5
Returning for its 10th and final year, the Bradley Farm Haunted House will offer a scary adventure and delicious treats for all ages. // Bradley Farm Haunted House: 13159 New Parkland Drive, Herndon

Not-So-Spooky Halloween Activities on Tap at Colvin Run Mill
Oct. 29, noon; $3-$5
Toss on costumes and take your family to Colvin Run Mill for an afternoon of crafts, activities and trick-or-treating around the historic site. // Colvin Run Mill: 10017 Colvin Run Road, Great Falls

Howl-o-ween
Oct. 29, 1 p.m.; free
Both you and your pet can dress up in costumes and head over to Lake Anne Plaza for games, contests, music and “yappy” hours at participating restaurants. // Lake Anne Plaza: 2609 Washington Plaza N., Reston

Halloween Carnival
Oct. 29, 6 p.m.; $2 per child ages 2 and up, free for adults and children under 2
For more than 30 years, this Halloween carnival has entertained children from all over NoVA. Infants through sixth-graders will enjoy carnival games, moon bounces, haunted houses and handmade crafts. // Falls Church Community Center: 223 Little Falls St., Falls Church

Fear-less Fest
Oct. 29, 7 p.m.; $7-$9
All ages are invited to take a night hike through Hidden Oaks Nature Center with a naturalist while dressed in costume. Along the way, you will meet and learn about (costumed) animals and why you shouldn’t be afraid of them. // Hidden Oaks Nature Center: 7701 Royce St., Annandale

House of Reptiles and Night Ride
Oct. 29, 7 p.m.; $10-$12
Test your courage at the House of Reptiles followed by a relaxing wagon ride through the moon-lit meadow with fire-roasted s’mores. // Ellanor C. Lawrence Park: 5040 Walney Road, Chantilly

Shocktober
Weekends in October; prices vary
Come rain or shine, Paxton Manor will be open all month to anyone brave enough to enter the haunted house for spooky exploration. // 601 Catoctin Circle NE, Leesburg

20th Annual Del Ray Halloween Parade
Oct. 30, 2 p.m.; free
Dress in a costume and head to Del Ray’s 20th annual Halloween parade. There will be fun activities for the entire family and prizes for the best costumes. // Del Ray: Mount Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues, Alexandria

Halloween Skull Hunt
Throughout October; free
Sugar Shack Donuts began its annual Halloween scavenger hunt on Oct. 1, and the fun continues through Oct. 31. Find one of the small or large skulls hidden between their two locations and redeem them for free doughnuts and merchandise. // Sugar Shack Donuts: Various locations between Sugar Shack Donuts’ Alexandria and Arlington stores

Halloween Trick-or-Treating
Oct. 31, 5 p.m.; free
This Halloween, venture to a Simon center near you for an afternoon of mall-wide fun and safe indoor trick-or-treating. // Fashion Centre at Pentagon City: 1100 S. Hayes St., Pentagon City; Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets: 241 Fort Evans Road NE, Leesburg

Leesburg Halloween Parade
Oct. 31, 6 p.m.; free
The Leesburg parade will feature high school music bands, decorated floats, classic cars, animals and police, fire and rescue officers and vehicles. // Kiwanis Club: Starts on King Street, Leesburg
