Stars and Stripes Style: What to wear for the Fourth of July

Finding red, white and blue items in your closet is easy. Stylishly pairing them together for the holiday, though—that can be a challenge.

By Editorial June 27, 2017 at 9:00 am

The Fourth of July is a holiday most people struggle to dress for. And that doesn’t mean it’s difficult to find anything to wear; in a pinch, anything red, white or blue will do. Dressing stylishly while still sticking  to the day’s flag-inspired color scheme, however, can be more of a challenge.

These patriotic-inspired pieces can be worn together or individually, whether you wear the sandals and bangle set together, go for the full top-shorts- bag combination or just add some bold fireworks-inspired sparkle with fan stud earrings is up to you. Here’s to a festive and fun Fourth of July–and to not wearing a flag-printed tank top to your holiday picnic, barbecue or fireworks show.

(Fourth of July Guide)

Rag & Bone/Jean “Justine” High Waist Denim Shorts, $175
These white denim shorts are the perfect base for any outfit, especially ones worn for the Fourth of July. They can easily be paired with a red or blue (or red and blue) top to complete the trifecta of patriotic colors.
Sans Souci Gauze Cold Shoulder Top, Dusty Blue, $29
This cold-shoulder top is perfect for summer, and its particular shade of blue doesn’t distract from its front tie, shoulder cutouts and bell sleeve details. It’s also the ideal base for a Fourth of July outfit. If you just add white or red bottoms or shoes, you’ll be instantly ready for any barbecue or picnic.
Baublebar “Celene” Bangle Bracelet Set, $44
These bangles can be worn together or separately to add a modern touch to any outfit. Their shapes are simple, but the cutout detail adds interest. The star shapes are also perfect for the holiday.
Gucci “GG MarmontTrompe l’oeil” Shoulder Bag, $2,750
This equestrian, belt-printed bag epitomizes the red, white and blue color scheme without going overboard. Its mixed strap and variety of textures also make it instantly eye-catching.
Guess “Double Crisscross” Pave Ring, $18
This fun ring adds extra sparkle to any look, particularly for Fourth of July. The contrasting pave and gold bands add a clean detail to most outfits, and their shapes are reminiscent of firework trails.
Baublebar “Venus” Stud Earrings, $34
These earrings will add fireworks-worthy sparkle to any ensemble.
Alexandre Birman “Clarita” Bow Sandals, $525
These sandals make great use of the gingham trend in a holiday-appropriate color scheme. It’s also perfect for summer with material reminiscent of picnics that you’ll likely go to all season.
J. Graziano Ball Drop Earrings, $32
These ball earrings are decidedly on-trend, with a modern shape and string texture in a bold red shade. Their color is one-third of the holiday’s color scheme, so you can easily pair them with jeans and a white top for a casually cute look that isn’t all stars and stripes.
H&M MultistrandNecklace, $10
This simple necklace adds a clean detail to any top. Its charm shapes are versatile, and as long as you don’t wear contrasting metals, it will go with anything.
Les Nereides “Lucky Bracelet Braid with Blue Stone and Star,” $53
This string bracelet is contrasted by gold details and a lighter blue stone. Its star charm is perfect for the patriotic holiday. Plus, now that you’ve chosen something blue, adding any red or white pieces to your look is that much easier.
