The Fredericksburg Nationals (FredNats), the single-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Washington Nationals, has sold. The Sibler family, the longtime team owners, announced this week that they had made the decision to sell the team to Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH).
“We made a decision to sell the team in order to ensure its growth and continued vitality in our community,” the Siblers said. This decision was due to “a combination of family considerations, evolution of the industry, and growth of the team.”
The FredNats will remain in Fredericksburg, and the Siblers will continue to be involved in the team as minority shareholders. Seth Sibler will become the team president, with a “meaningful role in day-to-day operations” and will provide strategic direction for the business. General manager Robbie Perry will remain in his role.
DBH owns more than 40 minor league teams across the country, including the Harrisburg Senators, which are also part of the Nationals system.
“We are confident that their expertise, resources, and ability to invest in this team and the community will ensure that our fans enjoy the best product in baseball,” the Siblers said. “They have a strong understanding of how meaningful the relationship that a minor league baseball team has with its community and stakeholders is, and have maintained strong relations with the local communities in which they operate.”
The team — previously based in Woodbridge — moved to Fredericksburg after the 2019 season, where they now play at the Virginia Credit Union Stadium.
