Gov. Northam signs bills to reduce state’s eviction rate; Fairfax proposes driverless shuttles

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Friday, March 1.

By Editorial March 1, 2019 at 8:37 am

Gov. Ralph Northam has signed a package of bills on Thursday to reduce the state’s eviction rate. The tenant-friendly legislation gives tenants more time to pay rent and fees ahead of an eviction notice and limits the number of legal actions a landlord may file. (WTOP)

Fairfax County officials have proposed an autonomous shuttle pilot project in partnership with Dominion Energy. The shuttle, which would be driven without a driver, would operate on normal roads next to cars, and would run between the Dunn Loring Metro Station and the Mosaic District. (Fox 5)

Dulles Airport traffic grew five percent last year, serving 47.5 million passengers during 2018. The growth has been attributed to a surge in international and domestic travel, as well as steady passenger traffic at Reagan National. (Loudoun Now)

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program, in collaboration with Lyft, will offer free rides home to potentially impaired drivers during St. Patrick’s Day as part of the SoberRide initiative. (InsideNoVA)
