Sometimes shopping for that one-of-a-kind piece for your home is all about the hunt. And we have found a handful of home stores in Northern Virginia that bring a thrill each time we walk in. Take a day, wear comfortable shoes and bring the big car, if you have one. Because if you have luck (like we did), you’ll find something at one of these stores that will be a highlight of your home.

Evolution Home
Alexandria
That bright green building you might have passed on Richmond Highway on your way into Old Town Alexandria is definitely worth a stop. What used to be Potomac West Interiors, later Not Too Shabby Consignments, merged together as Evolution Home. The building holds more than 25 vendor “stores,” including the secondary location of ACME Mid-Century + Modern. At Evolution Home you can find pieces for all design senses: antique, modern, mid-century, and colonial.
ReStore
Multiple NoVA locations
These stores may be hit or miss when you go in, but we encourage you to keep trying. And something to keep in mind while you shop at one of the six stores throughout NoVA: You’re helping out Habitat for Humanity.
Vintage Magnolia
Leesburg and Purcellville
This old 1950s motel on the side of Route 15 just south of downtown Leesburg is a place you can spend hours in, so be prepared. There are more than 50 vendors that stock their antique, vintage, and salvaged finds at Vintage Magnolia, and that is everything from furniture, linens, art, table and dinnerware, antique tools, clothing, and more. You can also find local artists’ work as well.
On a Whim, Rust & Feathers and The Hummingbird’s Nest
Lucketts
On a Whim is placed in a trifecta of home decor shopping along with Rust & Feathers and The Hummingbird’s Nest, all of which carry antiques and salvaged goods. As you drive north on Route 15 into Lucketts, you can’t miss the pink polka-dot silo on the right. That is On a Whim, where the newly relocated Weathered Elegance also resides, and it shares a parking lot with two other home stores. If you can’t find a piece to come home with, from the as-they-are items and repurposed pieces to On a Whim’s DIY yard, you’re not looking hard enough.
