Family Spotlight: The Talan family

Curious how fellow NoVA families are getting through their busy days? We’re giving you a peak behind the curtain to see how local moms and dads are getting it all done in a day.

Angelica Talan is the blogger and lifestyle influencer behind the popular websites Angelica in the City and Clarendon Moms. The Arlington-based mom spends her days sharing what’s fun and fabulous about the DC region—and spending quality time with her husband and two kids.

Here’s what a typical day looks like for Angelica and her family …

7 a.m.
The alarm goes off and I wake everyone up. Command “Alexa” to play some upbeat music. I make breakfast for the kids, usually a toasted bagel with cream cheese, oatmeal or a fresh fruit parfait. Get kids dressed and prepped for school. Wash my face, brush my teeth and put on a workout outfit.

8 a.m.
Time for school drop off. I drive the kids to school so that I can squeeze in a few extra minutes with them every day. We set our intentions for the day and share the reasons we’re grateful.

9:30 a.m.
I take a one-hour Orangetheory class. It’s the most comprehensive workout in the shortest period of time. This is my first Instagram story of the day. I post about it for accountability and also with the hope to inspire others.

10:30 a.m.
I have a late breakfast from South Block. I’ve been experimenting with intermittent fasting and I feel better eating after my workout.

11:30 a.m.
Quick shower and refresh. If I have a photo shoot that day or a television appearance, I usually hire Glam Squad to do my hair and makeup. Otherwise, I have a 10-minute DIY hair and makeup routine and I’m out the door again.

Noon
By lunch, I’m almost always in an Uber on my way to DC either for a photo shoot, a press luncheon, museum exhibit opening, restaurant opening, ribbon cutting or a client lunch meeting.

1:30 p.m.
I take my second Uber of the day and head to my office. I have a beautiful co-working space at the new Industrious at Ballston Exchange in Arlington.

2 p.m.
Coffee while answering emails. I usually get at least 300 a day and that’s not an exaggeration. I try to answer the ones interested in paid partnerships, speaking engagements or charity work first.

3 p.m.
Begin a blog post or edit one that’s due. I contribute to other publications, so sometimes the posts for Clarendon Moms and Angelica in the City get put on the back burner.

4:30 p.m.
Time to head home to meet my kids, Ella and Logan. I help with homework before cooking dinner. I usually make easy meals that take 30 minutes or less.

5 p.m.
I change my outfit, refresh my make-up, put dinner on the table for my husband and the kids, and then it’s time for me to jet again.

5:30 p.m.
I’m in my third Uber of the day. I usually take one to and from every event I attend and I spend the time I have in the car returning phone calls, emailing and engaging on social media.

6 p.m.
Arrive at a media event. Most influencers get invited to 6-8 events a week. However, I’m very picky about the ones I attend. I like to attend speaking engagements, concerts, theater, movie premieres, galas and events supporting other influencers.

9 p.m.
Back home. Once I’ve tucked my kids in bed, I remove my make-up and take another shower. I’ll normally finish a blog post, upload, edit images and work on my editorial calendar.

10:30 p.m.
Dave and I enjoy spending time together by watching a little bit of television. I love funny shows with strong female characters. Broad City, The Bold Type and Younger are a few faves.

11:30 p.m.
I’m usually so exhausted, I literally just crawl into bed and pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow!
