FCB Escola Northern Virginia, a franchise of premier soccer schools and training programs from FC Barcelona, opened a soccer training facility at the Evergreen Sportsplex. This is the third facility in the United States.
Frying Pan Farm Park is no longer just for kids. The park recently began offering a corporate team-building program based on farm-themed activities and is led by Empower Adventures. The program is designed for groups of 10-50 people.
Fairfax County Park Authority is seeking commentary on the newly revised Cultural Resource Management Plan. Two public comment meetings are scheduled: Oct. 5 at Green Spring Gardens and Oct. 18 at Great Falls Grange.
Prince William County waterways are getting a bit of a clean-up thanks to a $2 million grant from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Projects include the Dewey’s Creek project, the retrofit of a stormwater management pond off Wayside Drive, Powell’s Creek tributaries restoration and a reforestation project between Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park and New Bristoe Village.
Gardeners can preorder fall native plants up until tomorrow. Plants can also be purchased day of the sale on Oct. 7 from 1-3 p.m. at Long Branch Nature Center.
Sept. 30 is National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort to clean up public lands. Prince William County Parks and Recreation is teaming up with REI, Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition, MORE and the Port Potomac HOA to work on the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail at Powells Creek. And Fairfax County Park Authority is sponsoring a work day at Olander and Margaret Banks Neighborhood Park in Alexandria to clean up the 10 acres of land in Kingstowne.
