Tysons Armed Robbery Related to Burglary of High-Value Pokémon Cards

Fairfax County police believe a Fair Oaks burglary and a Tysons armed robbery were part of the same plan to steal valuable collectibles.

A woman was robbed at gunpoint last week in a Tysons parking garage. And when her boyfriend arrived on the scene, his home was burglarized and high-value Pokémon cards were stolen. Fairfax County Police say they believe the incidents were related.

According to a FCPD news release, on July 23, a victim reported a robbery at the 8600 block of Westwood Center Drive in Tysons at 9:07 a.m. The victim said a masked suspect approached her with a rifle, grabbed her, and stole her phone.

The victim escaped and the suspect fled before officers arrived on the scene. Officers were not able to find the suspect.

The victim’s boyfriend arrived at the scene around 9:25 a.m. After arriving, he saw an alert from his home security system about a break-in. A suspect entered his home and stole high-value Pokémon cards before fleeing.

Police identified the home burglary suspect as Mohammad Asif, 36, of California. Asif was taken into custody and faces charges on burglary, two counts of grand larceny, conspiracy to commit robbery, and conspiracy use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the robbery suspect. But they believe the two incidents are related and are continuing to investigate. FCPD said this “does not appear to be a random act.”
