5 family-friendly activities to keep you busy this weekend

Take the family out for a special weekend of carnivals, stories, and games.

With the school year coming to a close, it’s time to celebrate. Fill your weekend with carnival trips, storytimes, and a parents’ night out with these family-friendly activities.

Parent’s Night Out

Friday, 6-9 p.m.
As you go out for a night on the town, make sure your kids have some fun too. Take them to Premier Martial Arts for an evening of superhero games and activities. Plus, your superheroes will be able to refuel on scrumptious pizza. 9231 Sudley Rd., Old Town Manassas; $25

Storytime with Young Historians

Saturday, 10-10:30 a.m.
Have your little ones take a break from the cartoons for a special story time. Grab the computer and sit down for books, stories, and songs about the history of Alexandria’s African-American community. free

Children’s Day at the Museum

Saturday, 10-10:30 a.m.
Enjoy a day at the museum, even if it is virtual. This month’s activities will look into the history of Juneteenth through Q&As, a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, and a coloring activity of the Juneteenth flag. free

Family Fun: The Buzz On Bees

Saturday, 10-11:30 a.m.
Discover the secret lives of bees. Join the garden’s beekeeper to learn about the honey bees and native bees in the area. Walk around the blooms and explore the homes of these important  insects. Green Spring Gardens: 4603 Green Spring Rd., Alexandria; $10

Fair Oaks Mall Carnival

Through Sunday, times vary
Celebrate the end of the school year with a trip to the carnival. Start off your summer celebration with games, a ride on the ferris wheel, a delicious candy apple, and so much more.  Fair Oaks Mall: 11750 Fair Oaks Mall, Fairfax; free admission
