Virginia Tech is on the forefront of futuristic architecture. In fall 2018, the university was the winner of the international competition Solar Decathlon Middle East, with its FutureHAUS concept.
FutureHAUS is a sustainable, grid-connected solar home. Over 100 VT students and faculty created the solar home, which is completed powered by solar energy, features smart technology responsive to voice commands and is built in a factory to fit budget and lifestyle needs.
Intrigued? You can visit a prototype this summer at FutureHAUS’ public display in Alexandria this summer. Located near Virginia Tech’s Innovation Campus, the display will be open to the public from June 22 to Aug. 16.
Guests will be able to walk through the 2,800-square foot area and take in the patio, garden before walking into the 900-square-foot home equipped with 67 futuristic devices, including auto sliding doors, smart mirrors and a sink that pours exact water amounts.
