To-go drinking now OK in Fairfax
Thanks to the passage of Senate Bill 1391, adopted earlier this year, Fairfax Corner is turning into a mini-New Orleans where you can order a beverage from a local restaurant and stroll the streets as you sip. Peterson Companies, the owner of Fairfax Corner, is the first center in Fairfax County to obtain the new ABC commercial lifestyle center license. Restrictions do apply: Patrons must be of legal drinking age, and there are specific areas where drinking is not allowed, such as parking areas and parking garages. And this new license prohibits patrons from bringing and consuming their own alcoholic beverages on the grounds. You can enter some stores with the drinks purchased from California Pizza Kitchen, Crafthouse or Uncle Julio’s, but you cannot bring a drink from one establishment into another restaurant.
Leeburg goes cold
Leesburg is going big on cold-weather sports with the newly opened Inside Ski Training Center and the coming ION International Training Center. Inside Ski is the first indoor ski training facility in the mid-Atlantic region and has an infinite slope, a carpeted surface made of an AstroTurf type of material. The ION Center, which will be the area’s largest ice complex, is expected to open in the summer and will have two ice rinks and a floor that can be converted for non-skating sporting events, graduations and concerts.
Wegmans expansion moves into Reston
The popular grocer is looking to ink a deal to open another location in NoVA at the Reston Crescent development, according to Washington Business Journal. Wegmans is currently building a store in Chantilly on Westfields Boulevard that is expected to open spring 2018, and the company is moving to break ground on a Tysons location at the future Capital One Center at I-495 and Route 123.
Bikers can be choosers
Capital Bikeshare brought a popular option for transportation when it hit the Metro-D.C. area years ago. Now some area hubs are getting more options when they go to pick a borrowed bike. New bikesharing businesses that are in the market are China-based Mobike, LimeBike, Spin and Jump DC.
Upscale Barnes & Noble Opens in One Loudoun
Barnes and Noble is placing its bet on the west and wine. This new concept store, which is the first of its kind for the Metro-D.C. area and the fifth in the nation, combines a bookstore with an expanded cafe that will be serving wine and beer. The store opened on Nov. 22.
