Eighth Annual Red Shoe 5K Run & Walk
When: May 20, 9 a.m.
Where: Dulles Station Blvd., Herndon
Features: Kids fun run with souvenir medals; adult 5K race; supports Ronald McDonald House Charities; T-shirts; open to strollers and leashed dogs

10th Annual Ambulance Chase 5K & 0.5-Mile Fun Run
When: May 26, 8 a.m. fun run, 8:30 a.m. 5K
Where: Fairfax County Government Center: 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax
Features: An opportunity to run after an ambulance; proceeds support Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire & Rescue; awards; T-shirts

Ringing in Hope: A Salute to Our Troops
When: May 28, 8 a.m.
Where: 20626 Easthampton Plaza, Ashburn
Features: Finisher ribbons and dogtags for childen,; finish line massages; post-race food; festival with moon bounces, music, face painting and more; $5,000-worth of awards and prizes

Fourth Annual Race for Linmarie
When: June 2, 8 a.m.
Where: Lake Ridge Middle School: 12350 Mohican Road, Woodbridge
Features: 10K runs through Lake Ridge Park & Marina to Occoquan Reservoir; supports LinmarieSTRONG Germ Cell Cancer Research Fund and The Linmarie Concepcion Memorial Endowed Scholarship

2018 Fredericksburg Semper Fi 5K & 10K 
When: June 3, 8:45-11 a.m.

Features: Hospital Hill; the Rappahannock River; chip timing; first come, first-served T-shirts; medals; open to walkers, strollers and leashed pets

Run/Walk for Mental Health 5K
When: June 5, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Benjamin Banneker Park: 6620 18th St. N., Arlington
Features: Proceeds support programs that seek to assist those struggling with mental illness; not timed and no awards; follows the Washington & Old Dominion Trail

Sadie’s Race
When: May 20, 8 a.m.
Where: Purcellville Train Station: 200 N. 21st St., Purcellville
Features: 5K run/walk; Kids Fun Run; face-painting, balloons, a bounce house, food trucks and more; course follows the Washington & Old Dominion Trail; in memory of Sadie Grace Ablard; benefits SmileTrain, which helps raise money for children needing cleft palate repairs

Salute to the Military Sprint and Youth Triathlon

Where: Vint Hill Larry Weeks Outdoor Pool: 4248 Bludau Drive, Warrenton

Sugar Rim Bar Everyday Superhero 5K for the Homeless

StarKid 5K and Family Fun Run

Alexandria Running Festival
When: May 27, 7:30 a.m.
Where: Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria
Features: Park trails and road running; post-race Alexandria Family Festival, which honors military families; half marathon, kids’ kilometer race, 5K race

Delaplane Strawberry Festival 5K Race/Walk
When: May 27, 9:02 a.m.
Where: Sky Meadows State Park: 11012 Edmonds Lane, Delaplane
Features: Course has both rocky and muddy elements; runners and family get into the post-race festival, which contains vendors, art, farm animals and bluegrass music

Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon
When: June 2, 7 a.m.
Where: Starts at Doukenie Winery: 14727 Mountain Road, Purcellville
Features: Free race expo the day before the race which includes vendor booths, a wine tasting and more; awards ceremony; post-race wine and music festival with more than 10 participating wineries

Fit Foodie Festival & 5K
When: June 2, 8 a.m.
Where: Old Town Square, Fairfax
Features: Post-race festival with a beer garden, food and fitness demonstrations and more; cash rewards for top finishers; finishers medals; donations to No Kid Hungry

Run for the River
When: June 2, 10:30 a.m.
Where: Old Mill Park: 2201 Caroline St., Fredericksburg
Features: 4-mile timed run along the Rappanhannock River and Fredericksburg Canal; Rock the River Community Festival starring local vendors, craft beer and more; open to strollers and leashed dogs

Triple Crown Races
When: June 2, 5 p.m.
Where: Greenbrier Park near Yorktown High School: 2700 North Greenbrier St., Arlington
Features: Three race distances named the Kentucky Derby (1.25 miles), Preakness Stakes (1.1875 miles) and Belmont Stakes (1.5 miles); timed; ribbons for the top three male “stallions” and three female “fillies”

10K & 5K Races & Fitness Expo
When: June 3, 7:30-9 a.m.
Where: Herndon Community Center: 814 Ferndale Ave., Herndon
Features: T-shirts for the first 800 registrants; breakfast; male and female awards for several age groups; health and wellness vendors; post-race DJ music

Fountainhead Half Marathon and 10K Trail Run
When: June 3, 8 a.m. half marathon and 8:20 a.m. 10K race
Where: Fountainhead Regional Park: 10875 Hampton Road, Fairfax Station
Features: Hiking trails, horse trails and dirt roads running up hills and over rocks and streams; post-race food; giveaways; music; T-shirts

Northern Virginia Wine Run
When: June 3, 9:30 a.m.
Where: Bull Run Regional Park Concert Pavilion: 7700 Bull Run Drive, Centreville
Features: Both grass and pavement running surfaces; post-race festival featuring more than 200 wines from at least 25 local wineries; costume contest; wine garden for runners
