Try Your Hand at Axe Throwing in Northern Virginia

Sharpen your aim at these local axe throwing venues.

By Emily Perez March 26, 2026 at 10:16 am

For some, axe throwing is a way to release stress. For others, it’s a way to bond with family and friends and have a little fun. Whatever your reason is — cocktails, bar food, or date night — here are some of the best places to go axe throwing in Northern Virginia.

Axes and Os

Axes and Os specializes in private events and reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. It also offers arcade games and a menu of beer, wine, cocktails, and bar food. Sessions cost just over $40 per person for 90 minutes, including all equipment and instruction from an axe coach. Check out the Glow Throw Nights beginning April 4 and throw axes in the dark. Avid throwers can also join the Official Hatchet League on Thursdays. 21680 Ridgetop Cir., Ste. 125, Sterling

Bad Axe Throwing

Bad Axe Throwing is all about walk-ins. Be sure to check the schedule two hours before visiting to find the best opening. If you’d like to book in advance or for an event, it’s recommended to do so at least two months in advance, especially if you’re interested in a weekend. Prices vary start at about $37 for a one-hour session. 617 F S. Pickett St., Alexandria

Big Axe Barn

The Big Axe Barn at the Farm Brewery at Broad Run offers axe throwing for all levels and has heated lanes in the winter. Prices are $28 per person for 30 minutes, while private group events start at $200. The Farm Brewery operates seven days a week, while the Big Axe Barn is only open on weekends with varying hours. 16015 John Marshall Hwy., Broad Run

FXBG Axes

Try hitting a fun projected target at Fredericksburg’s first and only axe throwing range. FXBG Axes offers 55- and 90-minute sessions for ages 8 and up. Younger children can throw foam axes and play a variety of games. There’s a selection of small plates such as pizza, mozzarella sticks, and chicken tenders, as well as drinks including beer and wine. A $25 deposit is required and prices vary. 514 Lansdowne Rd., Fredericksburg

Heroic Axe

The veteran-owned Heroic Axe is the brainchild of Jeff and Rachel Moore, who went axe throwing while on vacation in 2021. The venue offers a variety of flatbreads, nachos, quesadillas, and other snacks. Choose from any one of their group packages for large events or rent the mobile “Battle Wagon” to bring the axe throwing to you. They host weekly trivia nights and other special events, including free axe throwing for firefighters and EMTs. The cost is $29 per person for 60 minutes and $39 per person for 90 minutes when booking in advance. Walk-in prices and hours vary. Vint Hill Farms: 6781 Kennedy Rd., Ste. 6, Warrenton
