Where to Take a Marijuana-Friendly Staycation in the DMV

The growing industry of cannabis tourism has made its way to the District and here, we share everything you need to know about it.

By Jess Feldman February 15, 2021 at 11:32 am

Updated April 18, 2022. As the country as a whole moves toward the legalization of marijuana, weed -related activities, including cannabis tourism, have grown across the country, especially in states like California and Colorado, where the drug has been legal for many years. According to the Marijuana Business Daily, an organization that provides updated information on the cannabis industry, the estimated economic impact of legal marijuana will increase by 223 percent from 2017 to 2022.

Today, this style of vacation is easy to find, thanks to sites like Airbnb and also Bud and Breakfast—a marijuana-friendly hotel and rental website that focuses solely on travel with the “joy of kush,” according to its website.

While the staycation options typically increase around National Weed Day, which falls on April 20 each year, there are hosts who open up their homes for guests on a regular basis. Below are four homes that are currently listed on both Airbnb and Bud and Breakfast for various dates this year. While all are located in the DC city limits, exact locations aren’t available until booking.

The Cozy Canna-Inn

Located two blocks from Historic Anacostia Park, this rare site is dedicated to “the cannabis and meditation life,” according to its listing on Airbnb. In addition to space for two guests, the rental comes with unique offerings all relating to marijuana, including karaoke and puff, a seasonal boat cruise, a one-hour meditation therapy session, and more. The listing currently has four reviews from past guests, all of whom left five stars for the host. $420 per night

Cannabis Friendly DC Hideaway Suite

This home can accommodate up to six guests in the Dupont Park neighborhood of the District. Upon arrival, guests will be offered free samples of cannabis strains, as well as free infused-edible options. Plus, there is a downstairs entrance to the home, increasing privacy for all guests who choose to visit. $1,500 per night

Another High Escape in DC

Listed on Bud and Breakfast, this home is located in the Brookland neighborhood surrounded by restaurants, memorials, and other activities unique to the city. All of the comments were written in the past six months and reflect a positive experience. Plus, due to damages from previous construction taking place next door to this location, the host is currently offering “two free fat pre-rolls” upon check in. $140 per night

Canna-Capecod Master Queen

Enjoy a cannabis and cuisine adventure at this DC accommodation. Your all-inclusive stay for two will include access to the 24-hour snack bar, meals (with infused options available), and open bar. Guests will have access to board games, fire pit, and indoor lounge with a fireplace throughout their stay. The hostess also provides cannabis infused hookah, vape, bongs, and more for your enjoyment. $420 per night
