During a typical summer, sitting outside in your neighborhood to enjoy live music with friends and a drink in hand is a common activity. Yet in the coronavirus era, that simple act has become a luxury many have been dreaming to take part in for the past few months.
Now, as Northern Virginia is in phase two of its reopening plan, the dream is starting to become a reality, with the Ballston BID hosting a community-focused concert on Saturday, June 20, on Ninth Street North in Arlington.
The evening affair, titled 9th Street Rocks, will include the talented artists from National Harbor-based Bobby McKey’s Dueling Piano Bar, as well as Ballston’s own Memphis Gold, a blues performer who has brought joy to local residents throughout the quarantine by performing on his balcony. The musicians plan on “traveling” through the neighborhood, spreading their unique sounds up to the balconies, porches and open windows in the Ballston neighborhood. While listening to the tunes outdoors, all are welcome to grab a to-go dinner or cocktail from nearby restaurants to enjoy too.
For those who are unable to attend, or would rather enjoy live music from the comfort of your couch right now, the entire event will be livestreamed on Ballston’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The Ballston BID has various other events planned for the summer, including outdoor movie nights, the farmers market, live concerts and more. For more details, click here.
