“God is in the details,” is a famous quote by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, an architect regarded as one of the pioneers of modernist architecture. And for the American Institute of Architects (AIA), this upcoming week is all in the details, as well.
The AIA Architecture Week, a nationwide celebration of local architecture, will be held across Northern Virginia with a wide variety of events, from April 20 to 28. This year will focus on historical churches.
Events include the popular walking tour of Old Town Alexandria, the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s exhibit of projects by local architects and a scavenger hunt for kids.
Participants can also expect an open air sketching workshop, virtual reality demonstrations, family-friendly STEAM programs, lectures on preservation and gender equity in architecture, garden tours and even skyline yoga.
