Hot tickets for the toddler crowd
Though I still haven’t seen A Star is Born—however I do know every word and elongated vowel of “Shallow“—what I will buy tickets for is Beep Beep! Described as an ice cream truck drama, the musical by Arts on the Horizon should entertain my 3-year-old as much as Lady Gaga’s soul-searching vocals. -SG // The Lab at Convergence: 1819 N. Quaker Lane; Alexandria; through March 23; $10
Planning for a night in Monte Carlo
My week ahead is packed with party planning and all the busyness that entails. I’m a member of the Junior League of Northern Virginia, an organization of women that volunteers with several nonprofits throughout the community, and our annual Monte Carlo Night masquerade party is next week (March 29). There’s a lot to finalize—think casino games, an open bar, silent auctions and raffles—and I’m looking forward to seeing how it’ll all come together. Take this as your official invite to grab a mask and hit the dance floor with me. Ticket sales end March 22. -HG // Army Navy Country Club: 1700 Army Navy Drive, Arlington; March 29, 8-11 p.m.; $125-$500
Petal power
I’ve lived in Northern Virginia my entire life, and sometimes it’s easy to take for granted just how amazing this region is. Exhibit A? The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off this Wednesday. It’s easy to complain about the touristy crowds and the unpredictability of the blooms. But, the reality is, the festival is world-famous. That’s why people come here. The blooms around the Tidal Basin are not to be missed. Peak bloom isn’t arriving until April, but I plan to head to Artechouse this weekend for its annual In Peak Bloom digital art installation. I went last year and I can honestly say I was blown away. Worth the trip over the river. -KB // Artechouse: 1238 Maryland Ave. SW, Washington, DC; March 21-May 27; General admission $16, At the door $20
