“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past”
Tuesday, 7-10 p.m.
My mini-vacation may be over, but I’m not quite ready to make a full-fledged return to reality. So, this Tuesday, I may take advantage of a dinner paired with wine and inspired by one of my favorite historical periods: the Roaring ’20s. My roommate and I recently joined Cooper Hawk’s wine club and as members are invited to attend a Great Gatsby-themed party from 7-10 p.m. The Great Gatsby was one of my favorite novels in high school and Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything would have been one of my favorite shows had it not been cancelled. The only thing that would make this event better is if guests were required to come in ’20s attire … bring on the beads and flapper dresses! –RK // Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant: 12130 Sunset Hills Road, Reston
You’re never too old for cartoons
Saturday & Sunday, 12:15 p.m.
Saturday morning cartoons were a weekly ritual when I was a kid, a simpler time when I didn’t have errands to run or places to be. It’s fair to say I’m a little nostalgic for those days from time to time, but the Spoons, Toons and Booze event at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse could certainly satisfy that. SecretFormula is bringing the event to NoVA from its previous run in Brooklyn, featuring classic Saturday morning cartoons, an all-you-can-eat sugary cereal bar and cereal-themed cocktails. Pajamas are encouraged. I have my fingers crossed they show some Animaniacs. –MB // Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse: 2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington
