Berry season is here! As the weather warms and summer crops ripen, many Virginia farms are getting ready to open up their fields to visitors for strawberry picking. Here are five places in Northern Virginia to get your berry bounty — including three farms hosting strawberry festivals in May.

Berry Good Farm

Berry Good Farm in Bealeton is ready for berry picking. It also sells a selection of local honey, jams, and jellies at area farmers markets and festivals. You can keep an eye on its event page and social media for updates on seasonal availability. 6062 Dwyer Ln., Bealeton

Great Country Farms

This Bluemont farm will open for strawberry picking in mid-May. You can head out to the fields to pick your bounty, then spend time at the mazes, play area, and splash pad. Plan a trip during the Strawberry Jubilee Fest, which runs May 23, 24, 30, and 31, to enjoy live music, specialty foods, wagon rides, and other fun activities. 34355 Snickersville Tpk., Bluemont

Green Truck Farm

The pick-your-own fields are officially open at Green Truck Farm. Strawberry picking season should last anywhere from five to six weeks, so you have plenty of time to pick these plump berries. While the farm plans to be open daily, check its Facebook page for any weather closures. before heading out. 3015 Hartland Ln., Markham

Hollin Farms

Strawberries are one of the first crops available at this Delaplane farm. Planning to open in late May, pickers will be able to find strawberries along with peas, Swiss chord, lettuce varieties, arugula, and kale. 1524 Snowden Rd., Delaplane

Messick’s Farm Market

The first four weekends in May are the strawberry festival at Messick’s, with barrel train rides, hayrides, a zipline, and more. The fields are open for picking when conditions are right, so check online or call ahead before visiting. Strawberries are $5.99 per pound. 6025 Catlett Rd., Bealeton

Wegmeyer Farms

Wegmeyer Farms in Hamilton has three separate locations for pick-your-own strawberries, plus one stop for pre-picked berries. Also be sure to visit the Wegmeyer Farms Foundation’s Lincoln Strawberry Festival, held May 15 to 17. 38299 Hughesville Rd., Hamilton; Little Oatlands Ln., Leesburg; 18451 Taylor Rd., Hamilton

Yankey Farms

Head to Bristow to visit the strawberry fields at Yankey Farms. Strawberry picking is in full swing, but the farm advises visitors to check its Facebook page for updates on its hours. Strawberries are $35 a gallon and $10 a quart for pick-your-own or $40 per gallon and $12 per quart pre-picked. 11812 Bristow Rd., Bristow
