Everything old is new again. The saying is especially true of vinyl records, which are having a moment in the spotlight as music-driven listening bars take off in popularity.
These listening bars — also sometimes called vinyl bars — offer a spot for diners to sip a craft drink or enjoy a meal while a vinyl record spins in the background. They keep broad libraries of albums, often in a wide range of genres, to set the mood with music filtered through high-fidelity sound systems. The trend takes inspiration from the Japanese kissa, a type of café-bar with music that originated in the late 1920s.
The concept has taken off in Washington, DC, in recent years, with spots like Press Club in Dupont Circle, Grazie Mille downtown, and Sost in Shaw. Now, the trend has hit Northern Virginia, with several concepts now open or coming soon.
