Highland cows have become a viral sensation in recent months due to their good-natured demeanor and friendly personalities. Many local farms have started to offer Highland cow meet-and-greets for guests to enjoy their calming presence in the Virginia countryside. Here are five Virginia farms that offer Highland cow experiences.
Cyrus Ridge Farm
Cyrus Ridge Farm, located in Waynesboro, offers farm tours of their Scottish Highlands. Guests can see the cows up close, learn about the breed, and explore the farm. Weekend VIP tours are for groups of one to eight people. 77 Singing Hill Ln., Waynesboro, $250 for one hour
Scarlet Springs Farm
Scarlet Springs is home to a herd of mini and micro-mini Highland cows available for immersion experiences. Each one is named after a character from the Netflix series Bridgerton. Each cow has their own unique personality listed on the farm’s website. Daphne has great hair, frosted highlights, melts for chin scratches, and has toddler-like energy. Eloise, who is a tiny micro-mini Highland, is easygoing and curious, and her best friend is Penelope. A male cow who lives on the farm is called Benedict (or Baby Benny) and is a charming, fluffy heart-stealer. Myers Highland Cow Farmstead
This Penn Laird area farmstead began as a pumpkin patch, and in December 2024, decided to branch out and include Scottish Highland and Highpark cows. You can check out the herd at a fenced-in area where the Myers family will share stories about each cow. Guests can book a 30-minute calf cuddle session to brush the animals, feed them treats, and take selfies with them. 3831 Bull Run Rd., Penn Laird, calf cuddle sessions are $85
Hunt Club Farm
Hunt Club Farm offers Miniature Highland Cow cuddling through a shared 20-minute experience with two mini Highland calves. Animal care staff will be on hand to offer educational information. Sessions are available at 9:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. and are $40 per person. Guests must be at least 7 years old, and those ages 7 to 14 must be accompanied by an adult. No more than four guests can be in one pen, and you will be separated if your group is more than four people. Highland Barn
Recently restored Highland Barn in Fredericksburg was built in 1987 and sits on a picturesque 45 acres. The barn is home to Scottish Highland cows Nutmeg, Nettle, and Maverick who are available for one-hour private farm sessions where guests can meet, feed, and brush the cows. Married couple Aubry and Jason own the farm, which is named for their beloved cows and Aubry’s Scottish heritage. 544 Mt.
