These Northern Virginia Main Streets Boast Festive Holiday Décor

Take a seasonal stroll along the region’s most charming small-town streets.

By Dawn Klavon November 29, 2025 at 7:00 am

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas — especially along the region’s most charming small-town streets. Twinkling garlands, glowing shop windows, and historic architecture come together in postcard-perfect fashion. Whether you’re looking for a festive afternoon stroll with the family or a shopping trip with your girlfriends, these walkable NoVA main streets offer some of the region’s most enchanting holiday displays.

Downtown Leesburg

It’s like something out of a Dickens tale: Historic downtown Leesburg transforms into a storybook holiday scene each winter. Festive bows and greenery adorn streetlamps and the cozy towns shops glow with seasonal displays. The combination of historic buildings and warm, inviting lights creates an old-world charm that feels especially magical.

Vienna

The lovely town of Vienna delivers big holiday nostalgia. Quaint Church Street — lined with award-winning restaurants and locally owned shops — becomes even more enchanting this time of year, dressed in garlands, wreaths, and bright, twinkling lights. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely seasonal stroll, with plenty of picturesque storefronts and inviting spots to duck into along the way.

Del Ray Window Murals

Get in the holiday spirit by planning a walk along Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. There, you can admire the hand-painted holiday window murals created by local artists. Take part in the Del Ray Holiday Kick-Off on Sunday, December 7, at 6 p.m. at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Mt. Vernon & Oxford Avenues) to witness thousands of luminarias lining the avenue — a uniquely Del Ray tradition.

Old Town Alexandria – King Street’s “Mile of Lights”

You don’t want to miss it — Old Town Alexandria’s iconic King Street earns its “Mile of Lights” nickname every holiday season. The street is lined with shimmering trees, twinkling white lights and meticulously decorated storefronts. It’s an ideal backdrop for a festive dinner, boutique shopping, or a romantic evening stroll.

Washington Street in Middleburg

Middleburg’s classic charm shines even brighter this time of year. Washington Street corridor is adorned with a meticulously decorated Christmas tree, bright lights, wreaths and festive garland. Coupled with the town’s beloved holiday parade and seasonal festivities, Middleburg is a bucket list destination during the holiday season.
