7 Northern Virginia Festivals to Add to Your September Calendar

Pick your pumpkins, eat your cider donuts, and try to make it through a corn maze at these fall festivals.

One of the best parts of fall are the festivals. If you’re looking to celebrate the arrival of the new season, these seven September festivals offer all the best pumpkins, hayrides, food, and more.

Mount Vernon Colonial Market and Fair

September 13–14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Experience what an 18th century marketplace was like with handmade wares available such as baskets, jewelry, and other textiles. There will also be early American entertainment like cricket and a puppet show. 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon

Great Country Farms’ Fall Pumpkin Harvest & Corn Maze Festival

September 19–October 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Revel in fall at Great Country Farms’ festival. There will be pumpkin picking, a corn maze to try, and the chance to roast some marshmallows at a bonfire. If you visit on a weekend, there are pig races at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. 34345 Snickersville Turnpike, Bluemont

Cox Farms Fall Festival

September 20 through early November

Daytime family fun awaits at this fall festival at Cox Farms in Centreville. There will be the quintessential autumnal hayrides, rope swings, slides, and farm animals. There will also be live music and fall food favorites like apple cider donuts, kettle corn, and caramel apples. 15621 Braddock Rd., Centreville

Shenandoah Valley Apple Harvest Festival

September 20–21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Enjoy all things apple at this pet-friendly festival that includes a petting zoo, live music, concessions, and kids’ area. Try your hand at the 50th anniversary pie-baking contest, and there’s even a car show September 20, too. 797 E. Patrick St., Frederick

Temple Hall Fall Festival

September 27–November 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Take the family to the Temple Hall Fall Festival for pick-your-own pumpkins and sunflowers. There will also be wagon rides around the farm, the chance to visit farm animals, and bounce houses. The NOVA Parks food truck will be serving up hot dogs, funnel cakes, and other snacks and drinks. 15855 Limestone School Rd., Leesburg

Mosaic Fall Festival

September 27–28, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Usher in the new season with a weekend at Mosaic District. There will be fall-themed selfie stations, an URBNmarket featuring 90 vendors, pumpkin painting for kids, and Tommy McFly returns as emcee. FRESHFARM farmer’s market will also be at the festival, with more than 50 vendors selling fresh produce and other cuisine.

Fredericksburg Greek Festival

September 27, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and September 28, noon to 4 p.m.

The Fredericksburg Greek Festival has been around for more than three decades. Guests who attend enjoy the authentic Greek food (think gyros, spanakopita, and souvlakis) and traditional music. Nativity of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church will also be offering tours showcasing the colorful murals inside the church and how religion has played a role in Greek history. 12326 Spotswood Furnace Rd., Fredericksburg
