If you’re missing summer concerts on Wolf Trap’s lawns, you’re not alone. But, don’t fret! There’s still plenty of ways to get in your Wolf Trap fix this season. Below, see how the popular venue is keeping busy, and how you can support its efforts and have some fun too.
Picnics in the Park
From Thursday, July 30 to Sunday, Aug. 2, Wolf Trap is hosting Picnics in the Park, where guests (by reservations only) can enjoy a special, pre-packaged meal prepared by Wolf Trap’s executive chef and catering team at a table on the Ovations deck (which is tented) or guests can take picnics to a spot in the property’s Meadow. The picnic meal includes options like a caprese panini, sliced Caribbean jerk chicken breast, chocolate chip cookies, sea salt potato chips, roasted asparagus, island-grain salads and more. // $35
Music Moves Us T-Shirt Fundraiser
Purchase a limited edition T-shirt to help ensure the future of live music at Wolf Trap. All funds raised by the T-shirts, which read “Music Moves Us,” will go directly to the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts to support its artistic and education initiatives. // $30
Wolf Trap Drive-In: Musical Movies that Move Us
From Wednesday, Aug. 5 to Sunday, Aug. 9, Wolf Trap is turning its venue into a drive-in theater, hosting showings of favorite musical movies, including This is Spinal Tap, Mamma Mia!, Sing, Dreamgirls and Dirty Dancing. Note that all current showings are sold out.
Park Pop-Ups
If you want to keep safe and stay at at home, but still crave Wolf Trap experiences, then head to the organization’s website for its Park Pop-Ups streaming series. Now streaming: U.S. Marine Band’s Free County Acoustic Quartet, Americana duo Palmyra and jazz ensemble t.l.a.o.o. On Saturday, July 25, Latin American trio Cantare will begin streaming, Eddie From Ohio will start streaming on Saturday, Aug. 1 and children’s drumcussionist Uncle Devin will stream on Saturday, Aug. 8.
Field Trip Fridays
Wolf Trap Field Trip Fridays are performed and recorded by Wolf Trap Teaching Artists to provide parents and children the opportunity to experience live, educational arts experiences from their home, with a new performance being posted every Friday through today, July 24. Streaming now: Deep Earth, Deep Ocean, by Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner; Billy’s Bridge, by Penny Russel; Sights and Sounds of African Music, by Kofi Dennis; Little Miss Muffet Goes to the Opera!, by Mary Gresock; New Beginnings, by Valerie Branch; Grandmother Moon Tells a Tale!, by Deborah “Spice” Kleinmann; and Pernilla’s Amazing Inventions, by Melissa Richardson.
Opera Untrapped Online
The Wolf Trap Opera’s programmings are now being brought inside your home, with exciting new streams released every Tuesday. Upcoming performances include Christoph Willibald Gluck’s Merlin’s Island (streaming Tuesday, Aug. 4); Idomeneo by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (streaming Tuesday, Aug. 18) and The Emperor of Atlantis, by Viktor Ullmann (streaming Tuesday, Sept. 1).
