Revisiting a New Year’s resolution
My go-to workout is usually some cardio combination of running and biking, but taking time to breathe and stretch was on my list of New Year’s resolutions. I was working 20-30 minute yoga classes into my routine for a few months, but have to admit that I’ve gotten off track and have reverted back to only doing my more intense sweat sessions. At this weekend’s Well Ray Festival, I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the practice and possibly picking up some new athletic gear from the attending vendors. –RK // Mount Vernon Avenue, Del Ray
School’s out and I’m spent
Now that the only responsibilities I have are getting myself up and out of the house for work, I’m celebrating. I’m celebrating not making lunches. I’m celebrating not getting a kid to the bus stop at 6:40 a.m., then again at 8:38 a.m. (seriously, you’d think they could have timed it a little better). I’m celebrating not calling or texting my kids right when they get home from school asking about homework and projects, or anything that I have to pick up for homework or projects on my way home. This weekend you’ll find me relaxing on the lawns of a winery. And since The Winery at La Grange in Haymarket is celebrating dogs this weekend with Dog Day at the Winery, that is most likely the winery you’ll find me at with my two fur-children, human children and husband in tow. –LN // The Winery at La Grange: 4970 Antioch Road, Haymarket
Upgrading the kids menu
My cooking skills can be surmised as followed: if it involves more than turning on the oven or stove top, it is too complicated for me. That has been something I’ve wanted to remedy for a bit, but opening up a cookbook to a recipe that requires something to be sauteed or poached can be intimidating. So maybe learning how to update some favorites from my childhood with an adult twist via the Ultimate Kids Meals for Adults cooking class at Salamander Resort will help engrain some confidence in my kitchen abilities.
