From an Ale Harvest festival to a stemware seminar: What we’re looking forward to this week

This week, the editors at Northern Virginia Magazine are looking forward to Eavesdrop Brewery’s first Ale Harvest event, seeing a witty musical about relationships and finding out if a glass can influence your beverage perception.

Checking a brewery off my list
I love breweries, so I am making it a point to try and make my way through as many of the ones we have in the region that I can. Up next will be Eavesdrop Brewery in Yorkshire, which is hosting its first Ale Harvest festival. What Eavesdrop plans to be an annual event, the Ale Harvest will choose an ingredient that grows on the grounds of the brewery that will then be put into a special beer that ages for a year to be released at the following year’s Ale Harvest. This year’s ingredient of choice is basil. So while it will take a year to taste that special concoction, I’ll be sure to sample Eavesdrop’s other collaborations and offerings this time around. –MB // Eavesdrop Brewery: 7223 Centreville Road, Yorkshire

Relationships are hard, so you might as well laugh at them
I am in a not-often-found position of having been able to avoid a lot of the awkward dating scenarios; I’ve been with my husband since senior year of high school. But don’t get me wrong, no relationship is easy. Fredericksburg Theatre Ensemble takes this to heart with their witty musical I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change that opens this week and runs through June 10. –LN // Fredericksburg Theatre Ensemble: 810 Caroline St., Fourth Floor, Fredericksburg

What does a glass have to do with my taste buds?
I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I only own three wine glasses; as a renter, the less you have to move from place to place the better, plus I don’t usually drink during the week. I never really stopped to question my wine glass inventory until I saw Tarara Winery’s upcoming Riedel Tasting & Stemware Seminar, which strives to explain how the size and shape of your glass can actually impact your wine judgement. I’m curious to see if this is truly the case, and also to find out which glasses I need to get in my cabinet. –RK // Tarara Winery: 13648 Tarara Lane, Leesburg
