From a ramen pop-up to the NoVA Teen Book Festival: What we’re looking forward to this week

This week, the editors at Northern Virginia Magazine are looking forward to oriental noodles and Japanese whisky flights, authors discussing their craft, revisiting a forgotten form of communication and watching ‘Red Sparrow.’

Ramen pop-up at AhSo
Wednesdays
The new modern American restaurant AhSo in Brambleton is playing around with Japanese food. Every Wednesday there is a ramen pop-up, or in un-foodie jargon, there’s one ramen available on the menu, once a week, plus Japanese whisky flights and what chef and owner Jason Maddens describes as “old school Kung Fu” playing on the TVs. Sunday brunch also started a few weeks ago. (And P.S., find a review of AhSo in the upcoming April issue of the magazine.) -SG // AhSo: 22855 Brambleton Plaza, Brambleton

Surrounding myself with literature
Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
For me, there is almost nothing more exciting than surrounding myself with creative minds. This Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., is the NoVA Teen Book Festival where dozens of authors are on hand to discuss their craft and lead panel discussions. I may be leading a little here, but I’m hoping at least one of my boys will join me and maybe start the foundation for another writer in the family. -LN // Washington-Lee High School: 1301 N. Wednesday is for Writing
Wednesday, 6-8 p.m.
Not since summer camp have I pulled out a pen and postcard to carefully craft a thoughtful note for a friend, so it may be time to resume that activity. On Wednesday night, Penny Post—one of Alexandria’s newest shops—is hosting a gathering of its correspondence club, a chance to bring back a meaningful tradition, reconnect with old friends and likely make a few new ones. –EB // Penny Post: 1201 King St., Alexandria

Some R&R and Red Sparrow
The last few weeks I’ve felt as though I’ve spent the entire weekend driving all over NoVA—and Maryland and Pennsylvania, for that matter—so I’m really looking forward to staying close to home this upcoming weekend. After seeing that J. Law’s latest, Red Sparrow, was hitting theaters on March 2 in our March 2018 new releases, I decided that a screening was the perfect excuse to treat myself to a weekend dedicated to rest and relaxation. Did I mention that Herndon’s AMC Worldgate 9 has a bar? –RK
